1ST MAGAZINE ANALYSIS

Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin

Iconography (signs)

This poster is promoting avril Lavigne and the new album 'Under My Skin'. As you can see from the poster above they have used the same photograph as on the digipak this is to help the audience recognise what it is promoting.
This poster is actually promoting a gig for Avril Lavigne but at the bottom in red there is the release date of the album saying 'New album in stores May 25'.
The main icon is Avril herself, just as in the digipak which I have analysed before.
The text which surrounds her forms a frame around the main thing in which is seen, either the image or the the text 'Avril Lavigne'.

Colour/ Typography (font)

Again it is in black and white with just the cross of her jacket and the text 'Avril Lavigne' in red and all in CAPITALS and different sizes, this catches your eye and makes people stop and look to see who it is and what it's promoting. The bright red colour of the cross is there to symbolise danger and fear, the harsh blacks and dark colours create a sense of mystery whereas the white shows a softer side of innocence as you can see from her expression. All of the fonts on this poster/ magazine advert stand out as they are different colours, fonts and sizes showing that each is important and there for a reason, most are in CAPITALS and bold, whereas some are small and light and have a delicate feel.

Composition

The overlapping of elements links the text and artist to each other, creating a united feel. The AOL music logo is positioned highest, showing that it is the most important. Whereas the artists name is bigger and bolder suggesting that it is equally as significant. Again the shot is a mid shot and not a close up, it seems as if she is withdrawn and secluded, things that are usually associated with introverts, whereas the font tells a different story. With her being to one side it shows that she is not confident, as confident artists would have close ups and bright, bold colours in the background to make a statement.

Pose and expression

In this poster the artist is not the first thing that I directly see. The main focus is the writing 'Avril Lavigne' as it is big and bold and stands out from the other writing and the image of Avril. Her expression shows an innocence as I have said before and provides the audience with a a feeling of powerlessness. The distancing is not close which creates an impersonal and moderate feel.
