We have researched various music videos for inspiration, below are some of the videos we looked at:
Smash Mouth - All Star
Genesis - I Can't Dance
Florence and The Machine - Kiss with a fist
Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On
We then narrowed it down to two songs:
Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down
AND
Nickleback - Photograph
In the end we choose Arctic Monkeys - When the sun goes down. This is because we thought it would be a good song for our music video as it has good lyrics and we thought we could do a lot with the song.
We did change our mind though and decided to do an 80's song as it would stand out from the others and as we are filming in the summer we thought it would be a better option to do a summery song.
Some of our choices were:
The B52's - Love Shack
Summer of '69 - Brian Adams
In the end we decided to do Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams.
We then emailed Bryan Adams asking for his permission to use Summer of '6. Our email is below:

Please find attached a request for use of one of Mr Adams' songs.
Yours
We recieved a reply saying:
Thanks for your inquiring about permission to use the Bryan Adams song "Summer Of 69" in your A levels project.
If you are using the song for internal use only and will not be posting it to You Tube or on any other visual media we are fine with you moving forward. However,
if you are planning on using this in any additional manner, there are two different permissions which you are required to obtain
in order to use this title.
The two permissions which are required are 1) Synchronization Use, this use
is obtained from the Publishing Company(s) which own the rights to the
title (you can get this information for virtually every song from one
or both of the following sites www.ASCAP.com or www.bmi.com). The writers of
this title are Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance and they are via ASCAP. You
will need to contact any and all of the publishers for each of the writers of this title
will need to contact any and all of the publishers for each of the writers of this title
and give them details about the specifics of the uses you would like to obtain, they will
want to know the campaign details (where, when, what) and if there is a visual please include that.
They will review your request and then establish a fee for this use. I believe that both writers of this title are handled
by Universal Music Publishing.
2) the second use which you require is Master Use which you
will obtain from the repertoire owner of the title you are interested
in (in this case it is Universal Music Group). They will need the very
same details that you provided to the publisher(s) and they will quote
you a fee for the usage as well. Typically the Publishing fee is identical to the Master
in (in this case it is Universal Music Group). They will need the very
same details that you provided to the publisher(s) and they will quote
you a fee for the usage as well. Typically the Publishing fee is identical to the Master
Use fee (called Most Favoured Nations or MFN).
I hope this assists you, it is quite a lengthly process to undertake but that is the proper way to proceed if you plan to use this for anything beyond internal classroom use.

This means that we can use the song, Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams but cannot upload it to YouTube or any other visual media, this wont be a problem as we are not going to use it for anything other than internal classroom use and we will not upload our finished music video onto this blog, we will only be putting short sections of our music video on so we can explain what we intend to do and why we chose to do this.
